Lettermatic, Website Illustrations

Year2020
RoleIllustrator

Lettermatic needed dry font-licensing terms translated into engaging launch illustrations for five use cases: web, logos/packaging, books/posters, student licenses, and font modification.

Instead of treating the typeface as an isolated object, the rough, textured spot illustrations (drawn in Procreate with scanned halftones) place characters interacting with type in everyday settings, reading with a dog or hunched at a keyboard. This reinforces the core concept: a font is something you use in a specific space, and the license defines where.

Built as a cohesive system, the illustrations share a consistent line weight and paper texture, unified by grayscale paired with strategic accent colors (orange for packaging, purple for posters, green for web mockups) to ensure seamless integration across the site.

The set works as a system. Same line weight, same paper, same handful of accent colors breaking through the grayscale: orange on the packaging spot, purple on the poster, green behind the phone mockups. Drop any one of them into a new section of the site and it belongs.
